Dan,

Finally got around to reading this, wonderful writing about wonderful fish! BC does not have a monopoly on great fly fishing. I too love and enjoy our whitefish, actually they have provided me with more joy than trout, and were essentially the fish my boys learned to fly fish on. While fishing for them and trout and carp occasionally we pick up our largescale sucker, a hard fighter especially in streams and they will eat very close to the top as well. Good Dan!

Not bad man :) Only tip I'd share is don't hold the rod tip so high after you set a strike, I find it far safer to go horizontal. Then again, I'm used to fighting wild brown trouts.

I'm glad you like it! It really is interesting that, once a stigma has set in, people just won't change their mindset about those fish. I think those stigma's can vary from region to region too. I've never had a shot at a Whitefish but one of these years I'm going to. I figure, the more fish I can learn to catch on a fly, the better I am at flyfishing. and why not get better? (not to mention have a PILE of fun!)

Superb post, and great photos! There is an effort out here in the west to rename the Mountain Whitefish to "Rocky Mountain Bonefish" in order to undo its reputation as a coarse, carp-like fish. I love trout, too, but let's face it -- all fish can be interesting and fun in their own ways. Looking forward to the gamefish -- I love panfish on the fly!
